Modern spaces in Freiburg for an innovative working environment

The mid-sized economic structure with numerous global market and technology leaders as well as hidden champions and the strong service sector are characteristic of this region. The focus on seminal, knowledge-based growth sectors has gained crucial advantages for the location in international competition.

Largest Fraunhofer location and part of the innovation alliance

The five resident Fraunhofer institutes develop technologies for numerous applications in the areas of energy, safety, communication, environment, health, production and mobility. With approximately 2,500 employees, Freiburg is the largest Fraunhofer location in Germany – ahead of Berlin and Dresden. In the science city of Freiburg, research at Fraunhofer provides for a bridging between research and application. With system- and technology-orientated innovations, the Fraunhofer institutes contribute to the competitiveness of their customers in the region.

Freiburg Innovation Award

Thanks to the special structure, good and innovative ideas can develop well in Freiburg and are supported. The Technologiestiftung BioMed Freiburg and Freiburg’s innovation leader in the field of medical technology, Stryker Leibinger GmbH & Co. KG, grant the “Freiburg Innovation Award” every two years, which is supported by the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau.
Since 1992, the award has recognised ideas for new products, processes or services that are particularly innovative and sustainable, exhibit economic relevance and are applicable and marketable in practice or that represent a viable basis for a future-orientated business model. The award is endowed with a total of EUR 10,000.
